BBFC Transport & Logistics Glossary

Your quick guide to key terms in goods transport, logistics, and freight – whether you send a small parcel or a full truckload from Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Vapi to Delhi NCR.

Full Truck Load (FTL) / Full Load

When a single customer books an entire truck for their goods. This ensures faster transit and dedicated service. Ideal for large shipments.

Part Truck Load (PTL) / Shared Truck Service

When multiple smaller consignments share one truck, and each customer pays only for the space or weight used. Perfect for smaller loads, starts @ ₹6/kg with BBFC.

Consignor (Shipper)

The person or company sending the goods. Example: A textile exporter in Bhiwandi sending fabric to Delhi.

Consignee (Receiver)

The person or company receiving the goods. Example: A retailer in Delhi receiving those fabrics.

Waybill / Lorry Receipt (LR)

A transport document issued by BBFC detailing shipment info – origin, destination, weight, charges, and vehicle number. Acts as proof of transport contract.

CBM (Cubic Meter)

A measurement of cargo volume – length × width × height (in meters). Used to calculate space in a truck, especially for lighter but bulky goods.

Tonne / Metric Ton

weight measurement unit equal to 1,000 kilograms (kg). Commonly used to quote truck capacity or freight rate (e.g. ₹2,500 per tonne).

Freight Rate / Freight Charges

The cost of transporting goods, based on weight (₹/kg), volume (₹/CBM), or full truck basis. BBFC offers competitive rates on all major North-bound routes.

Loading & Unloading

The process of placing goods on the truck and removing them at destination. Proper handling ensures goods stay safe and undamaged.

Transit Time

Proof of Delivery (POD)

A signed confirmation that goods have been received safely by the consignee – acts as delivery proof.

Just-in-Time (JIT) Delivery

First Mile Delivery

The initial stage when goods are picked up from the consignor’s location and brought to BBFC’s nearest hub.

Last Mile Delivery

The final stage of transportation where goods are delivered from BBFC’s hub to the consignee. Critical for ensuring customer satisfaction.

Fleet Management

Monitoring and managing a group of trucks for maintenance, fuel, and performance – key to BBFC’s reliability.

Load Optimisation

Maximising truck utilisation by planning weight, size, and route efficiently – lowers costs and improves delivery time.

Freight Forwarder

A company that arranges transportation of goods across carriers and routes. BBFC functions as a domestic freight forwarder with its own trucks and partner network.

3PL (Third Party Logistics)

When logistics operations (like warehousing, transportation, delivery) are outsourced to specialists like BBFC.

Fleet Owner / Transporter

A company (like BBFC) that owns and operates trucks to move goods across states – ensuring accountability and service reliability.
